2000 Things to Generate 20,000 Fans – Leave Your CD in Car Share Vehicles

2000 Things to Generate 20,000 Fans - Leave Your CD in Car Share VehiclesAuthor David Meerman Scott made a honest and realistic quote, “if you want 20,000 fans you must do 2000 different things that each generate 10 fans.” This was my favorite quote and I am going to take this on as a challenge for an ambitious project to give you 2000 different things you can do to generate 20,000 fans.

Some of these items will apply better for larger acts, some items will work for any act. Some may work for you, some may not… not yet. Some these can be done with little effort, some will take some web development, some might even require some significant development. Some of these have successfully worked for me over the years. The point is to create a list of items that would cover a wide range of acts and abilities.

The end result of all this will hopefully be more Facebook likes, Twitter followers, email list subscriptions, more sales and more traffic to your website… more fans! So kick start your music marketing efforts with these ideas!

63. Leave Your CD in Car Share Vehicles

I recently came across this post by City CarShare and I just thought it was so original, a outside the box bit of music marketing.

Our Team member Philip would leave his CD mixes (initially by accident) in our cars. Turns out he joined an underground, in-the-glovebox community of City CarShare music sharers.

Many cities now have car share companies. Join, use a car and leave your CD in the car for the next person to find.

62. Let a Fan Tweet the Debut of a New Song

I just came across this last week. I like how it is fairly simple to implement, gets the fans involved and pushes preorders. Give one of your fans the chance to debut a brand new song on their Twitter account. Your fan gets the honor of sending out a Tweet to their followers with a link to listen to a brand new song.

Visit http://tweetkiss.com/us/ to see how KISS is doing this for their upcoming new album Monster. They are requiring entry into the contest to include preordering the new album. The winner is selected and is then asked to Tweet out a link to the new song.

61. Where Am I Photos

You are on the road playing shows, sure your fans know where you will be on a given date for each show. But, do they know where you are between shows? Start a photo series called “Where Am I?” Take a photo while on the road, at the airport, at the gas station, the rest stop, the truck stop, a local historical landmark and post it asking your fans to identify where you are.

One photo each day or every couple days and your fans take it from there, posting their guess.

Simple and easy source of ongoing content.
